We went for a birthday celebration for a dear friend of ours on a Friday night. I will caution you that this place looks like nothing from the outside. But judging this book by the cover would be a huge mistake! We reserved their limo service (which is FREE, except tipping the driver - best deal on Marco!) to pick us up from our hotel. The black limo arrived right on time, with an extremely courteous driver. We enjoyed our ride in luxury to Marco Polo and were greeted at the door with smiles and a Happy Birthday wish for our friend. The place has a feel of a speak-easy or old Hollywood. The wait staff is dressed impeccably and they really know their stuff! Live music played from the lounge and added a wonderful background to our evening. As a serious wine lover, I was seriously excited by their wine list! The food was absolutely delicious and they surprised us with a couple of small extras that made us feel so special. The husband and wife owners both stopped by our table to introduce themselves. And by the end of the night we had spoken to both of them several times and were sharing hugs good bye. The service was attentive to almost perfection and we were never rushed in fact they pointed told us to take our time and enjoy ourselves. This place is not inexpensive, but I would still highly recommend it. We spent $540 for four of us, but that included appetizers to dessert, and a couple of the most expensive entrees on the menu. This also included our tip and two bottles of wine for us - the wine totaled in the $175 range alone, so not too bad when you break it down. Either way, we left there completely feeling like we got our money's worth. And that is the kind of feeling I want when leaving a restaurant, especially for a special occasion. So, thank you, Marco Polo for making our night a wonderful one - the memories are still fresh in my mind even though I am no longer on vacation and am back at my work desk. We will be back!

This is perhaps the best restaurant on Marco. Indeed, it is a throwback-type of place, with an almost-"key club" kind of feeling. It's location mid-island is pleasantly out-of-the-way. Waiters dressed in ties with white aprons, decently spaced tables, appropriately dimmed lighting with soft, live music coming from the lounge area take you back to an era of the fine dining supper club. This place is always hoppin' -- mostly with residents of Marco Island that are quite happy to "Leave the dining choices on Collier Blvd for the visitors staying on the beach!" The Marco Polo is a place to enjoy an evening and to make it as leisurely as one desires. The fact that one can simply call the restaurant to have their own limo come pick you up (and take you home afterwards!) is testimony to this fact. Stiff cocktails, a broad wine selection and excellent fish (the Grouper Imperial is outstanding) with salad ("Would you like anchovies on your Ceasar, sir?") AND dessert (Bananas Foster!!) made tableside make this a definite go-to place. Such service cannot be found elsewhere in the area. And now for my technical "Review of the Other Reviews" section: Note the bimodality of the reviews for this restaurant (that means the presence of very high and very low reviews with little in-between). The low reviews seem to be focused on Christmas and New Years Eve dining experiences. While I am not going to defend what may or may not have happened during your visit to the MP, keep this in mind next year: Instead of going out on those nights, do what most people do: stay at home or, alternatively, be thankful that you were able to find someone who'd make dinner (and clean it up) for you.

We came to this restaurant with a very large group and had a great experience. The wait staff was super attentive and the food was still hot and delicious even though there were so many of us. The decor was old school and fun. We felt extremely welcomed and had a wonderful evening. I highly recommend for great food.

Absolutely the best meal of my vacation. From the moment the limo picked us up to the host, the cocktail waitress, the waitress and the woman who came to our table to check on us it was fabulous. Fantastic selection of vodka and wines. The lobster bisque was awesome and the Dover sole out of this world. Definitely an "old school" homey atmosphere. Very welcoming. My compliments to the chef. This is the restaurant by which all other restaurants should be judged!

Hands down the best meal I've ever had! We celebrated our 26th wedding anniversary at Marco Polo's on 12/19/13. 1. Complimentary stretch limo from our resort (Marriott Beach Resort - also exceptional!). 2. Went out of their way to celebrate our anniversary greeting us at the door with "Happy Anniversary", rose petals on our table and complementary after dinner drinks. 3. Throw back decor was elegant and intimate. 4. Attentive and personable wait staff. 5. AMAZING food. Mahi Mahi was sensational served with a sweet potato hash with pieces of bacon and plantain rice with almonds. Bananas Foster dessert prepared table-side is to die for! Thanks Marco Polo for making our anniversary so memorable! We'll be back!

Great place went by limo provided by the restaurant, of course a tip for the driver is expected. Had a great time had the Chateau Briande it was excellent we will go back.

The reviewer who said BURGUNDY was right! :) This restaurant is reminiscent of old time supper clubs and the atmosphere was lovely. However, we didn't have a great experience at Marco Polo and here's why: The drinks took FOREVER to get, at least 15 minutes after we ordered our drinks. And after that it took quite a while for our server to come by for our food order. I had the Caesar salad which was made table side and it was a bit too mustardy but pretty good. I then had the Grouper Imperial ("a Marco Polo favorite") and the sauce was overpowering and the risotto side was far too salty. The Bananas Foster made table side was lovely, but by that time we had been there for 3 hours and had pretty much had it. I don't think we would return as the food is not spectacular enough for a 3 and a half hour dinner.

This place was my favorite on the island by far. A hidden treasure! From the stretch limo that picks you up and takes you home to the owners personal welcome greeting at the front door. And don't forget the amazing food! Best smoked salmon and lobster tails I've ever had (and I've had a lot!). I don't usually go to the same place twice while on vacation because I want to experience everything, but on this trip I did.

The staff at Marco Polo provide one of the greatest dining experiences you will ever experience. The food was superb, our waiter was a knowledgable gentleman, and the drink staff created delicious creations. Ordering an entree could not have been more difficult by the plethora of great options on the menu. I ended up choosing the veal, medium rare, which could not have been grilled any more perfect. The overall experience is a solid 10/10 - tip well and thank the owner who may be enjoying a cigar outside.

Went there by limo. Which is free but there are signs all over that the driver only works for tips so ended up spending thirty on that. Ordered two separate wines because they didn't have the first but then they didn't have the second and they didn't have any of the Rieslings that were on the menu. Ende up getting a 2013 reisling but they charged us the more expensive price! Didn't even get menus until we were there for 30 minutes. The lobster bisque was not like a bisque should be. Not creamy but more soupy. Best part of the meal was the warm rolls and the green beans on the side. Even though we were told the green beans he roasted tomatoes in it. Guess they ran out by the time we got ours. I got the grouper imperial which is a "polo favorite"" the champagne sauce was overwhelming. The grouper was rubbery and questionably cooked. The other meal we got was the veal Oscar which was mediocre Definitely this place is not work the price of $40 a plate. Low $20s quality food at best!!! Quant establishment and the servers and owners were nice. They really need to work on their food quality. Table side Caesar was awful. To mustardy/tangy and covered with processed Parmesan cheese to enjoy. Live music was nice We skipped on dessert to prevent further disappointment

BURGUNDY. Just kidding, haha. But seriously, everything is burgundy. I felt like I entered a time machine that dropped me off in the 70s. However, all burgundy aside, the wait staff and the food was on point. If I could award Marco Polo 3.5 stars rather than 4, I would but I'll just round up thanks to the great service. To start, I recommend the escargot, baked Brie and mushrooms- Absolutely delicious. As for the salads, the Cesar is prepared table side, which is always fun and the caprese was extremely fresh. For entrees, we had the dover sole, which is also prepared table side, the scallops, lobster tail and the mahi. All were pretty good with the exception of the mahi that was over cooked. Lastly, I would end with the bananas foster. All in all, Marco Polo was a positive experience, especially considering the limited cuisine options on the island.

There were some things we loved and some things we really disliked about our Christmas Eve dinner at Marco Polo. The limo service and driver was great, and our server Shane was extremely friendly, knowledgable and attentive. My chicken parm meal was delish, but the carbonara someone in my party got was extremely salty and the tuna tar tar was wayyyyyyy over cooked. The owner took them off of our bill which was great, but we were still a bit disappointed. Overall, I'd be willing to give it another try but I will be sure to be very specific when ordering in regards to how I would like the dish prepared.

First time I've given 5 stars. The food is excellent and the service great. Tom and his wife and staff make you feel special and welcome. A great hidden gem. Really. Sounds expensive but not really. A treat that you should try. Loved Dan Vass and his music.

My party of four had a WONDERFUL time at this restaurant last Friday evening! We were on Marco Island for a one-week vacation, traveling with another couple. Our meal (celebrating one of our friend's birthday) was one of the highlights of our week! The service and food were absolutely perfect; and the restaurant has a classy yet fun vibe. Although my wife and I have been to the island each year for the past five (this was our friends' first time), we had never been to Marco Polo Restaurant. Thanks to YELP, and the many positive reviews, we chose to dine there for our final night, and we're so glad we did. Thanks for making it a special evening for all four of us! We'll definitely be back!

Our family was celebrating a birthday and this was one fine place to celebrate. We were transported back and forth by a stretch limo, seated at secluded round table and laughed the night away. I love authentic onion soup and this was the real deal. We enjoyed fresh salads, fine wine and perfectly cooked rack of lamb. One of our family members ordered the steak special, which was the peppercorn coated sirloin, which was a bit too spicy for him and sent it back. Besides for that a lovely dinner and can't wait to go back.

A hidden gem on Marco. Nothing to look at on the outside as others have said but the food is worth the trip. We take visitors here at least once a trip. Service is attentive and friendly and they gladly help with special changes. Try the veal chop when it is on special for it is so juicy and tender. The scallop appetizer is my wife's favorite. Dover sole is delicious as are their other fish offerings. Take the time to eat at this restaurant which will remind you of a place out of mad men.

If we could have given a rating of zero stars we would. Not one good thing about this restaurant ... limo has a sign "enjoy complimentary beverages", was a bunch of dusty glasses with no beverages. Waiter was horrible, ordered a special which was rib eye steak, was all fat and not even cooked with a horrible sauce, scalloped potatoes which were scooped with an ice cream scoop, served in a round ball and were cold. Old, stale and dusty place. Owner makes it seem like celebrity's go there ...what a horrible place to spend Christmas dinner on vacation. Avoid, avoid, avoid.

I've worked in restaurants for 18 years and have never seen such horrible service...I know a server on a rail of blow when I see one, and I was shocked to spot it at a restaurant with such an expensive menu and older clientele. The food was mediocre at best and definitely overpriced. Oh, and it took 4 hours to finish the meal because...well, I have no idea why. From top to bottom the service was awful (aside from the hostess). The hostess was actually quite nice and sane - wish she would have been around for the whole dining experience. But the rest of the staff was horrific. A "cocktail" server showed up, got about 50% of the orders for drinks before disappearing, and returned every once in a blue moon to maybe or maybe not replenish the drinks or fill waters...usually with a scowl. Then there was the court jester / semi-server that was sweating bullets into our empty glasses while telling us offensive stories like being trapped in a basement with a TV on the fritz in a tornado after being abused all the while suggesting he knew where we could buy dope (we were a family of 7 with my conservative father, his girlfriend, and my siblings...not some frat party looking for a good time). Occasionally what I deemed to be the "head server" would come by, like to take the main food order and the dessert order, but we could never figure out who to ask for various things, like "why is my salad taking 30 minutes since someone delivered 2 soups?" Literally I watched my brother and sister receive the lobster bisque, only to have the court jester get the twitches while topping the soup with sherry - he dumped about a pint of sherry on top...twice - then they both sent the soups back, got sherry on the side, and we still hadn't received our cezar salad for the other 5 of us...that was an extra 30 minutes after the second round of soups had been taken away. So many "servers" and so little service. Looking around the restaurant it appeared that we were the only ones being neglected, as the other tables looked satisfied. My dad's girlfriend whispered across the table that she had been hit in the head no less than 4 times with various server's elbows when they passed by, which made a total of 13 elbows to the head between her, my sister and myself. Seriously incredible. I sat back and realized we were the Titanic of the dining room - once there are x number of mistakes at a table, you basically get abandoned...I've seen it and even done it before, but hell, the bill was going to be $700 and I kept thinking it would turn around at some point. No dice. So I've read several glowing reviews of this place, and even a few that seemed to share our experience, at least in part, so this is a real doozie, review-wise. 1 star gone for the mediocre food, 1 star gone for the 2 extra hours it took to finish the meal than it should have, 1 star gone for the elbows to the head / crappie service overall, and 1 star gone specifically for the bullet-sweating server that told awful stories. It's hard to believe that night actually happened, but we have the credit card charge to prove it.

Read the other reviews first but had a very good experience overall. Service was excellent. Food was very good, not 5 star but very good. A few changes in the details of the food could have made it better, cold salad plates, less dressing on salad etc. yes the decor and styling of the restaurant is dated but we had a nice time and would likely come back if we are in town

Read tons of reviews on trip advisor and thought the limo sounded great. The limo ride was as described and a great service. The service was very good and friendly. Unfortunately, the food was not great. It was good but not for the price. They offer a good selection of meat but it is choice, not prime and at about $40/steak it should be prime cuts. Our rolls were Pillsbury frozen rolls that we have eaten at home. We had the french onion soup and it was ok, but a bit thick on cheese and lacking bread. I ordered a wedge salad but tried to substitute ranch for the blue cheese but they didn't have any. We ordered the crab stuffed grouper and crab stuffed shrimp. The grouper was good. Had a light flavor and was cooked well. The stuffing had large lump crab and a light sauce. Shrimp were large and had the same stuffing but were over cooked and tough. Each were $29. Overall, we gave it 2 stars based on the quality of food for the price. With 2 drinks, soup, and 2 entrees we were over $100 after tip. We have no problem paying that and much more but this was just not worth it.

GoodFellas was certainly a good analogy. This restaurant definitely had an old-timey feel. When our first server introduced herself as our "cocktail waitress," I knew it was definitely a throwback. The service was painfully slow, but perhaps almost intentionally. I think they are trying to promote a atmosphere for visitors who aren't in a hurry to leave, enjoy a few drinks, and slowly eat dinner. Dinner was disappointing. My veal oscar was drenched and completely saturated in Bearnaise, so the only hint of veal left was its texture. However, the waiter was making bananas foster tableside for the family next to us, and it did look amazing. It was a shame, given that we came here on a recommendation. But, perhaps the attitude they were trying to project wasn't my cup of tea.

I have had my share of all around bad restaurants but this place tops the list. We arrived for a preplanned New Years Eve dinner and were escorted to the very back corner of a very tired room. After sitting at our table for 15 minutes someone finally came to ask us if we would like a drink. This was only the start. Our first course was good but then our lobster bisque barely warm soup arrive. Even worse it was fishy smelling. The salad was fine but then my surf and turf arrived. The waiter was no where to be found so the kitchen staff served the Lobster still in it's shell while our waiter carefully removed the lobster from it's shell at the table next to us. The filet was a joke. It was a slice of poor quality meat, like a Denny's steak and egg steak. Then the au gratin potatoes. I think they were mass produced a week ago and scooped onto the plate with an ice-cream scooper. Maybe this is why they were cold in the middle. The entire meal was barely warm. Not once during dinner did anyone pour our $120 bottle of wine. Our table ran out of wine during the meal but as usual our waiter was missing in action. Another waiter noticed we had no drinks and had another bottle brought to the table and immediately poured the wine into my used glass. I had to ask for fresh glasses for my table. Then we sat again for 20 minutes until our waiter came and asked if we wanted our desert. 40 minutes after that our desert arrived. Just when you thought it couldn't get worse it went to a new level of bad. A banana foster was a bowl of liquid melted ice cream with bananas. My cherry jubilee was also a bowl of melted ice cream liquid. At that I wanted to sprint out of this place. It was so bad I left no tip. Three people at $100.00 a person plus the wine. Wow was this bad. Don't even think of going to this place.

If you call and make reservations, ask for the Limo to pick you up and it's "free" and then you can tip the driver. It's a nice treat to splurge on and a great way to start a fantastic meal. The best way to describe this place is that it looks like a set from GoodFellas. You walk in, there's a piano, near the bar with a black tinsel backdrop, a couple of old-timers at the end of the bar and the bar opens up to the dining room. Just classic American cuisine, done very well and excellent service. I had the Grouper Imperial, which was local grouper stuffed with crabmeat stuffing, it was great. Amy started with the escargot, I forgot what she had for dinner, but everything we had was great. It's kind of off the beaten path, yet another good reason for the limo. The service was great and served as a prime example of what waitstaff should aspire to. We went in the offseason and the owner came over and asked how everything was and thanked us for coming. Definitely the place to go for the fancy dinner on your vacation. I'd go back.

We ate here after flying into Miami from New Jersey and driving 2 hours to get to Marco Island, so we were cranky. Nevertheless, the staff was friendly and attentive, and the owners came over to welcome us. I had a Caesar salad, which was prepared at the table, and a special consisting of seared tuna atop risotto. I asked for the tuna medium, although it appeared too rare for my liking, it was still good. My wife had lobster bisque, carpaccio, and a spinach salad. We were presented with a small bruschetta before the meal and a small lemon ice intermezzo. For dessert, she had a Grand Marnier souffle. She said everything was excellent, except that the rolls were a bit on the doughy side. As far as atmosphere, there was a singer in the lounge who sang everything from Elvis to Barry White to Neil Diamond to Al Green. The music wasn't too loud, which allowed us to enjoy our dinner and still have a conversation. We'd definitely come back.

Absolutely the best meal of my vacation. From the moment the limo picked us up to the host, the cocktail waitress, the waitress and the woman who came to our table to check on us it was fabulous.
